About Souter Investments
Souter Investments is the single family office of Sir Brian Souter, who co-founded the Stagecoach bus and rail group in 1980 with his sister Ann Gloag. Based in Edinburgh, the firm was established in 2006 by Souter alongside former banker Andy Macfie. It invests across quoted markets, funds and real estate but is primarily a mid-market private equity investor, deploying capital directly or with co-investment partners; since inception it has completed more than 100 unquoted investments totalling over £750m in cost. The office retains roughly a 14% holding in Stagecoach, historically its largest single position. It is estimated to oversee around £388m (about $529M) in net assets. Recent activity includes a co-investment with Horizon Capital in 2025 to take a majority stake in consulting firm ERA Group.
