About Colonial House Capital
Colonial House Capital is the Toronto-based single family office of Walter Schroeder, founder of the credit-rating agency DBRS. Schroeder founded Dominion Bond Rating Services Ltd. (DBRS) in Toronto in 1976 and built it into the fourth-largest debt rating agency in the world, serving as its sole owner for nearly 40 years before selling to The Carlyle Group and Warburg Pincus in 2015. He has since served as chairman of the family office. The office invests directly and through co-investments, with exposure concentrated in North America. It allocates across infrastructure, natural resources, and private equity, and confirmed positions include a co-investment with Brookfield Corporation in GrafTech International Ltd., where the two held 21 percent of shares as of mid-2025.
